Fort Worth Nonprofits Team Up to Help Fragile Babies

Mothers’ Milk Bank of North Texas (MMBNT) selected Cuisine for Healing as its newest breastmilk donation site, filling a gap created in central Fort Worth when MMBNT relocated outside of the medical district.

MMBNT is a nonprofit organization that collects breastmilk donations from approved, lactating mothers and dispenses that milk to hospital neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) and medically needy outpatients after thorough laboratory processing, pasteurization and testing. Most milk donors deliver their milk to MMBNT’s office or to a designated donation site, known as a depot.

When MMBNT relocated to southwest Fort Worth from its facility in the medical district in January 2019, it became clear that donors still needed a donation site in the area. The medical district’s central location, in addition to the abundance of hospitals there, made it a convenient spot for many milk donors.

Staff at fellow nonprofit Cuisine for Healing were happy to fill that need.

“Since Mothers’ Milk Bank of North Texas has moved, Cuisine for Healing is centrally located in the hospital district with easy parking for young mothers to pop in at their convenience,” Lori Henson, Executive Director of Cuisine for Healing, said. “We have a welcome environment and look forward to serving and partnering with the milk bank.”

Donors who drop off their milk at Cuisine for Healing will find an organization dedicated to helping others, just like MMBNT. Cuisine for Healing’s mission is to make nutritious, delicious food readily available to people combating life-threatening diseases, while providing education about the power of healthy food to help the body in the healing process.

“Our missions are so similar,” Henson said. “We were both founded as nonprofits to help boost the immune system and improve the quality of someone’s life.”

Any current milk donors interested in dropping off their milk at Cuisine for Healing can stop by the nonprofit, located at 1614 Mistletoe Boulevard in Fort Worth. It is open 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Thursday, and 9 am to 2 pm Friday.
