Family Expo & Big Latch On: A Celebration for All
Thursday, 6/28/2018
If you’re looking for some summer family fun, we know just the thing for you: the 7th Annual Family Expo & Big Latch On. This free, mostly indoor event takes place Saturday, August 4 at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden and features vendors and a silent auction with goodies for all ages, plus a special five-minute breastfeeding awareness event.
Fort Worth is one of hundreds of cities to participate in The Big Latch On, a global initiative where mothers around the world gather to breastfeed together, celebrate each other and offer support. Taking place annually during World Breastfeeding Week, the goal is to latch all participating children at the same time for one minute. The latch will take place at 10:30 am on the lawn just outside the Deborah Beggs Moncrief Garden Center.
The rest of the Family Expo will be set up inside the Garden Center in Redbud and Oak Hall from 9 am to 1 pm. More than 30 vendors will showcase their products and services, from jewelry to children’s books, home products to chiropractic care and everything in between. The event will also include a silent auction and family-friendly activities.
“Communities thrive when their children are breastfed, and children thrive when their communities support breastfeeding,” Amanda Alvarez, chair of Tarrant County Breastfeeding Coalition, said. “Celebrating the role of the breastfeeding family within the community is at the heart of the Family Expo and Big Latch On. Now in its seventh year, the 2018 Family Expo and Big Latch On strives to be the best yet. Our event brings together families, community organizations and businesses who work together to promote and protect breastfeeding in Tarrant County. I am excited to greet all the newcomers, and thrilled to see folks who come year after year to continue supporting the community they’ve built.”
The 7th Annual Family Expo & Big Latch On is hosted by Tarrant County Breastfeeding Coalition and Mothers’ Milk Bank of North Texas. Be sure to RSVP to the event by clicking here to receive event updates and reminders. Participants in the Big Latch On should register on the global website here.
