Are you pumping your breastmilk and storing it in the freezer for either future use or donation to a milk bank? Today’s blog post features advice and FREEZER PHOTOS sent in by our fabulous donor moms. Thank you, Mothers' Milk Bank of Texas donor moms and babies, for sharing your breastmilk with babies in need.
Four “Cool” Breastmilk Tips:
1. Freeze your milk as soon as possible after pumping.
2. Make sure to leave ½ inch at the top of the bag or container, allowing the milk to expand as it freezes. Then make sure that the bag is zipped completely shut and the bags are not frozen together.
3. To prevent bags from sticking together you can use paper towels, newsprint or even recycled paper.
4. If breastmillk is kept in a regular freezer, it can last up to three months. If stored in a deep freezer, it can last up to six months.
