Since 2004 Mothers’ Milk Bank of North Texas has supplied premature and critically ill infants with the lifesaving gift of donor human milk. Mothers’ Milk Bank of North Texas is one of fourteen milk banks in North America that operate under the guidelines of the Human Milk Banking Association of North America. The first milk bank established under these guidelines was Mothers’ Milk Bank of California in San Jose, California, in 1974.
Compared to North America, Europe has 186 active milk banks. European milk banks have been around since the founding of the first European milk bank in Vienna, Austria in 1909.
