Celebrate World Breastfeeding Week on Saturday, August 1 with the Tarrant County Breastfeeding Coalition and Mothers’ Milk Bank of North Texas at the 4th Annual Family Expo & Big Latch On. The event is free and will be located at Will Rogers Memorial Center this year due to increased popularity and attendance. Originated in New Zealand in 2005, the event now encompasses groups from around the world who breastfeed simultaneously with a purpose of raising awareness and support of breastfeeding. The Big Latch On was introduced in Portland, Oregon in 2010 and has grown to 234 locations so far across the United States in 2015.
The Expo at Will Rogers will run from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Mothers will latch their babies at 10:30 am for 1 minute. Over 75 family-friendly vendors will participate. A silent auction will offer bidding on items related to pregnancy, babies, children and families. Event organizer, Jacque McCollum says, “Last year’s event had Texas-size success with over 1000 people in attendance and 277 babies breastfeeding simultaneously. The new location will allow us to increase our event space, provide larger aisles and have all vendors in one room.”
