Lactation Consultant Insider: Reba Godfrey

Reba Godfrey is dedicated to moms and babies. As a lactation consultant at Methodist Charlton Medical Center in Dallas, she works with mothers every day to help them meet their breastfeeding goals.
Having had her IBCLC certification for 16 years, Reba, a nurse, first became interested in lactation because she wanted to assist her patients with their breastfeeding challenges. She realized she needed more training to best help them, so she started the process to become a board-certified lactation consultant. By the time her training was complete, she decided to focus on lactation full-time.
“I really wanted to work with moms to help them meet their breastfeeding goals, whether that was for two months or two years,” Reba said.
Reba works closely with Mothers’ Milk Bank of North Texas, as her hospital serves as a drop off site, or depot, for donors. She and her fellow staff also distribute educational materials from MMBNT, increasing parents’ awareness of milk banking. These materials provide helpful information for moms who may be producing excess breastmilk as well as for those whose babies may need donor milk.
In everything she does, Reba strives to provide support and guidance for the mothers and babies who cross her path. “As a healthcare provider, I want the very best outcomes for our moms and babies,” she said. “I know that begins with getting breastfeeding off to a good start here in the hospital, and then providing good resources so they know how to find support once they are home.”
